So Tired!

Taquito wants everyone to know that he's very tired. He had a lot of fun today, but if anyone needs him, he'll be on the couch!

Doggy Day Care

Talk about a spoiled pup! I just realized today that Taquito is at Woof Dah. That's how tired I am for some reason. I forgot that Derek took the dog to doggy DayCare. Yes...you heard me right, doggy daycare. We love our pup enough to send him to daycare to play with other puppies. Granted it's once a week...and mostly during the winter...but still, I never thought I would be the type to say..."Derek, did you call Woof Dah and schedule Taquito in for Wednesday?"
The best thing is...he will be so tired tonight, all he will do is sleep! Wanna take a peek at him?
Just follow the directions and see if you can spot Taquito...it's kinda like a "Where's Waldo?" book. Difficult at first, then you seem to see him everywhere!

Oh It's Done!

Well, we have demolished, patched, painted, tiled, installed plumbing, put up window treatment and shower curtain. We're done! I loaded the room with as much stuff i have to beautify it. We still have a few things to get, a couple shelves, a mirror, picture frames and a garbage can. I have decided to forgo the bathroom ensamble. I will get hand soap from Bath and Body Works, and a plain wastebasket. Mostly because the set that is winning in the pole, is on clearance and not all the pieces are available! Ha! So i am done looking!

I went shopping with my mom this past Sunday, and i'm sure i drove her nuts because i couldn't make up my mind! I am bringing back a rug to Bed Bath and Beyond. I bought two, one for in front of the sink and one in front of the toilet. The toilet rug is going back. Too many rugs, so one is going back.

I bought a shower curtain, and decorated it myself! So i took fusible webbing, a clothes iron, and different ribbon. I had to cut the shower curtain down, so i had enought for a window covering. I used thick white ribbon and a multi colored ribbon for accent color. I really like it! And because i had to cut down the shower curtain...i had curtain rings left over. So i used them on the window covering also! Only difference is i used ribbon to tie the curtain to the hook and left it dangling for a fun effect!
We have one big thing to finish in there and that is behind the door where the old mirror/medicine cabinet was, we need to close the hole. So i will be doing some type of shadow box /w shelves. You can see it on my little video...which does not have audio. It's from my camera.

I really didn't want to leave the room. It's fun to be in there now! I keep looking around the house looking for things to put in there to decorate. I think it's now time to start demolishing the basement as much as we can! So i'm going to go tell Derek, i'm ready for my next project!! Here is a fun little video i took of our new bathroom!

Progress!

Wow! I am very impressed! We put the vanity in this morning and fixed the stupid plumbing down there. See when the previous owners...or whomever put the bathroom in...put the vanity in, when you stood at the sink the window would be right above your eye line. But the plumbing came from the wall on the left. So to get a clean flushline with the wall....they cut a huge hole in the side of the old vanity for the plumbing to come through, then cut into the drywall and "sunk" it into the wall. So once we moved that old vanity....I had a huge L-shaped hole to patch. So we bought a smaller vanity to fit the correct wall. So now your butt faces the toilet when you're standing at the sink. There is actually a lot of room! The best part is...we did this without any arguing!!! We actually don't argue except when it should be done a certain way...my way or his way. But we did very well with this project! I think we can move on to the rest of the house!

So now i have a favor to ask. Please give your opinion on my bathroom accessories. Derek is of no help. I have to force him to make a decision, and i don't think he really thinks about it much.
Now the room is blue, gray, and white. I don't really know if i want more blue, or bring in another color. So here are the pictures i have. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions! And make sure you vote!
  1. Blue stripes
  2. Blue, white and silver stripes
  3. Clear glass
I should add, because it's a small room, i am not getting the whole set. Just the soap pump, another one for lotion, watsebasket, and possibly the tissue box. So cast your vote and help me decide!

Trivial Pursuit of Happiness

Whoo hoo! So Derek just told me tonight that he got a new position at work...he is now offically a scientist! He got a decent raise and a new office! I am very excited for him! and us! We are doing really good right now, hopefully i didn't just jinx us!

We spent our night playing Trivial Pursuit with Matt and Niki. It's always good to see them. Taquito loves them! He was Mr. Attention Pig all night long! It's time for bed, we have a big day tomorrow. We're installing the vanity, sink and base boarding in the bathroom tomorrow.

P.S. Congrats to my cousin Aaron and his girlfriend Maggien on their new house!!

I got Forked!

So we had a good time up in Grand Forks. But man, that drive really sucks! All you see out the window once you get past St. Cloud is nothing. And once you get into North Dakota...more nothing and blowing snow. The drive up wasn't too bad, but more the drive home. First i was sick..actually sick, not hung over. When i got home on Sunday i had a fever. I slept till 11 today, my fever broke, but i still have a wicked headache.

So derek took me through the campus. It's a really pretty campus. Makes me wish i had gone to a big university. I got to see my Sister In-Law's sorority house, and the Ralph Engelstad Arena. It is beautiful!!! Inside and out. I think it rivals the Excel Center.

We hung out at the Blue Moose Bar and Grill. It's where Derek used to bartend when he went to school up there. So i got to meet his old boss and his wife. They are a great couple! So nice and friendly! We got to sit in some really nice seats with Dave and MaryGail! I mean look at the view! It was a great weekend, we had a lot of fun. It's now time for me to go plop back on the couch. I'm feeling better than yesterday and earlier this morning, but i am definately going to bed early!! This weekend really put me into the mood for the WCHA Final Five weekend coming up in March!

Grout, Hockey and the Beginning of the Weekend

So i forgot to show what Derek got me for Valentines day! He sent me some beautiful flowers to my work! He does such a good job at picking out flowers! They were delivered to my work. Everyone thought they were very pretty!

After work we ran to Menards to get our vanity, faucet and other things we needed for the bathroom. Well, we can't install the vanity until the floor has cured for 7 days. So next weekend we will install everything and finish off the bathroom. Left is our new faucet...it has pretty white handles! To the right is our new vanity with sink.

I finished off removing the grout from the tops of the tiles. Now we just wait till next week. Here is where the vanity is going. We have to try placing it two different ways, but i think it's going to butt up against the the wall with the light switch...or right where the pipes are sticking out of the wall. My floor looks awesome!! We can walk on it, but no water should spill on it for 7 days.

Well, i gotta go! We're heading to GrandForks to watch the Sioux play at the Ralph! I'll take pictures and tell ya all about my first time up there!

March for Babies

Candace's baby Shower
Me(holding Avery), Carey, and Candace

I just wanted to let people know that i am going to be walking in the March of Dimes, March for Babies on April 27th. It's an 8 mile walk, that i have done before a long time ago. However, this year is rather special.
My good friend Carey walked this every year. She loved babies. This was the one charity that she would work really hard at for raising money. Well, this past May she took her life. Something was going on that she couldn't handle, and she thought that was the only way out. I miss her so very very much! So this year I (and hopefully some of our mutual friends) will be walking her walk, and i know she will be right there beside me.
If you are able to donate any amount for a great cause, please click on the link on the left side of my blog. I'd like to personally raise $250.00, or more if i can for the team. Your help is greatly appreciated!

My Almost Forgotten Rant

So if you have decided that you know longer wish to work for a company....do you stop doing your job? I mean literally stop doing what your supposed to be doing and just willy nilly enter things so when you do leave (which it's likely you won't be giving a two week notice) things start rejecting left and right making more work for everyone? Seriously, i love my job. But a few people at work didn't and left. My cousin Jess left on a wednesday with no notice, except for that day. Our other coworker told our boss last Thursday that Friday was her last day....she gave a one day notice. Then here we were all worried that another girl who works part time was going to up and leave...she didn't come in on Monday, so we figured she probably wasn't even going to call to say she was done. But we found out she was in a car accident in Florida. I guess she went down to visit family, that's why she wasn't in on Monday. So we were all bracing for another one to leave us. She's ok, doesn't sound like it was a major major accident. Just bad enough for her to miss her flight.

So that's why today was going to be interesting....waiting to see if we were dropping from 9 to 8 to 7 to 6 people in our office. I don't think i would know weather to laugh or cry!!

Tool Belt Diva

I think the title says it all! Look at what i did! (Excuse me while i toot my own horn for a few mins!!) I am very proud of my work! I even did an awesome job around the toilet! It wasn't very hard to do, just very mind-numbing! You can actually see the blue on the walls now!

I think tomorrow i will be grouting the floor. Yes i know it's Valentines day, but we're having a roast for dinner. We're working on fixing up the house, why go out?

Then on friday we're going to pick out our vanity. See where the pipe is sticking out of the wall? The vanity and sink will be on that wall. So it'll have to be a smaller vanity. But we have one picked out already. Oh just so you understand, i am standing in the shower to take this picture. See the toilet in front? I suppose it could double as a shower stool...

Well, I am going to go see if i can finagle a backrub outta Derek. That was hard work!!!

Bathroom Fun Continues

So while i made dinner tonight, Derek put the second coat of paint on the walls. Then he proceeded to tear down the ghetto shower stall door and frame. We're going to put up a shower curtain, which i think will look a whole lot nicer!

We picked out some cool vinyl self adhesive tiles for the floor. They look like slate stone. We had the self stick tiles down before, however the geniuses who put it down never used grout in between them. Hello! You have to grout them just like regular tiles or it's not a seamless look. Otherwise, if and when the toilet leaks or over flows, water doesn't get underneath and they come loose.

So all in all, with the exception of working on the bathroom, it was a pretty slow normal night here. In a half hour i get to go to bed! Tomorrow should be an interesting day. :)

Home Improvement and Other Weekend Fun

Our weekend was a nice relaxing weekend. On friday Derek and i went out for Dinner at Famous Daves. It was a treat for us. We hadn't been out to dinner in quite a while since we decided we needed to start slowing down on the spending. Then we headed over to Aaron and Erin...the Sorensen's. They are not married yet, but it's just easier to say The Sorensens than Aaron and Erin. The new thing right now is brewing your own beer. So we got to taste quite a few home brews. I really liked the Nut Brown Ale.

Saturday we went to my parents house for lunch. My brother Eric had to work, or we would have done dinner. But Derek had a hockey game at 7:15, so it all worked out. I was going to go watch him play, but it was cold out, and sitting in a cold hockey arena isn't fun by yourself. So i stayed home and finished priming the basement bathroom.

Sunday we went and bought paint, vinyl tiles and everything we need to install the flooring. Then my brother Adam came over and we watched hockey, and Saving Private Ryan.

So this is the tiny bathroom downstairs. The picture on the right is just with the primer. This was done on saturday. It has a shower, toilet and a sink. We ripped out the old vanity already. So we have to go find something to replace it.

The picture to the left is the first coat of blue paint. The picture didn't take too well, but you can kinda see it above the shower. I did this tonight. Yes, the toilet is practically in front of the shower. Not sure what the people who put it in were thinking...

Yes, we live a very exciting life! Oh gee...it's 9:46pm...past my bedtime!

The Doppler Effect & Cat Puke

If you haven't seen the TV show The Big Bang Theory, i highly recommend it. For those who don't know my husband, he is a self-proclaimed dork. He's big into math and science, which is why he got his degree as a chemist. Well, watching the antics of Sheldon and Leonard so make me think of how Derek must have been in college. Don't know why, but the show reminds me of him and makes both of us laugh! Unfortunately for us it's in reruns already because of this stupid writers strike. But if you haven't seen it...hey, new episodes for you!

So now for the other half of my night. Stupid cat! Why is it that we have hardwood floors, yet he manages to find carpet or our bedspread to puke on, and why is it that it's always 3:30AM when he decides to do this? I guess we're in training for kids. Only he doesn't cry for 15 minutes after he throws up. Instead...and picture this in your mind...you roll over and start hearing a weird retching noise. You have 3 choices;

A) over react, turn the light on and search for the cat only for it to have been the dog clearing his throat. So now Derek is freaking out cuz the light is on and it's too bright.

B) Pretend you don't hear it. Maybe it never happened, or by some rare miracle Derek maybe cleaned it up.

C) Open your eyes and wait to hear the noise again. If is indeed the cat puking, you'd better be quick...either kick him off the bed or turn the light on and run him out to the hardwood. But then you're chasing a puking cat around the house at 3:30 in the morning.

None of these options happen to be a favorite of mine, but then again i guess it could be worse.

Just the Beginning

Hello everyone!

Since most people Derek and I know do not have a MySpace account, i decided to join some of my fellow bloggers and start my own! I wanted to be able to do something that would bring my in-laws in closer to us, since they are all widely spread out. Of course my family can read as well! I'm not all that witty, so sometimes it may be entertaining and sometimes not. We'll see what happens! Here is a rundown of what we did in January!

January 23rd Derek and I took off for sunny Mexico! It was beautiful! We were down there to see our friends Jess and Nate get married. We were able to stay till that following Tuesday.

Everything was beautiful! Jess and Nate were married on Friday the 25th. They even had a beer burro named Pepito! It was pretty cool!

While we were down there we got to spend time with a few friends from Derek's old job at Upsher-Smith. It was a fun group to hang out with. We only had one day where the Mango Margaritas were going down way too easy. But we were on vacation!!

When we left on that Tuesday, Jason and Roxanne had snagged a cabana. This is how we left them. It was sad to leave. Because we came home to a brutal -7 degrees.

Here are a few more random pics. Our view from our room, Nate and Jess's wedding, and dinner at the Asian resturant!

Now that we are home, we have are dealing with our poor sick puppy. Taquito developed Kennel Cough while we were away. So we now have him on antibiotics and he's feeling much better. Spaz the cat...he's just happy to be home!
