So we went in on Thursday for the gels to ripe my cervix, and after being hooked up on the monitor for a while they said they didn't need to that i was having contractions and they didn't want to over do things. So they sent me home with instructions to call for induction in the AM.
Frida
y i called Labor and Delivery and they said come on in. So we got there about 7:15am. They got me all set-up with the IV, pitocin, checked my cervix(1 1/2 cm still), and after a few mins on the Pit i started feeling the contractions...although not painful. Then at about 5pm things were starting to get kinda painful(not sure how anyone could do this all without pain meds) so they checked again and I was 4 1/2cm...felt like everything was going so slowly! So we ordered the Epidural...which i didn't even feel happen, but was awesome!! At first it only numbed the right side and only a bit a on the left. So they pushed a bolus and had me lay on my left side since an epidural works by gravity. About 8pm my nurse wanted me to start rolling over every half hour to kinda help the cervix along, so they rolled me to the right...i was still 4 1/2cm.
9PM!! I was feeling lots of pressure and kept leaking fluid, i could feel the foley cat
heter with each contraction...my nurse was funny...she smile huge and said...Let's check you again! Sure enough i jumped from 4 1/2 cm to 9cm in an HOUR! She stepped out to call my doctor, then the hard work began! I pushed for 1 1/2 hours! It was the strangest feeling! I kept focusing on what felt like me poopin, and the fact that it felt like her head was coming out towards my leg. Derek was great! He kept me focused and counted for me, helped hold my leg for the pushing...even got me refoucused when i started freakng out about not being able to do it.
10:36pm Friday September 4th, Kylie Noel Atkinson was born. She looks alot like her daddy! Took a bit to get the placenta to come out, and they had to stitch me since i tore, but i got to hold her while they did everything. 7lbs 5oz 19 1/2 inches long.

Congratulations Atkinson family! She is so cute. Hope we can get together soon to meet the little bundle.
Thanks for sharing your story. I'm always so curious how it goes for other people, but never want to ask! Isn't pushing exhausting?!? Ugg, I almost gave up! Congratulations! If you need any advice/help just let me know!
